Heather Kent is a dedicated and compassionate Registered Psychotherapist specializing in Trauma Assessment and the treatment of PTSD. With a profound commitment to helping individuals heal from trauma and abusive relationships, Heather has authored two insightful best-selling books on recovering from these experiences, offering them for free to those in need. Her transformative work in the field extends to her role as a Trauma-Informed educator, where she equips helping professionals and organizations with the tools needed to respond to trauma effectively.
Before transitioning to psychotherapy, Heather served as a high school teacher for 11 years, where she witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by students from complex trauma backgrounds. This experience, coupled with the tragic deaths of several students, motivated Heather to pursue a Master’s degree in psychology and specialize in trauma recovery work. Her journey has been marked by a deep desire to address the gaps in support for individuals in desperate situations.
Heather's private practice has become a haven for those dealing with abusive relationships, and she actively shares her message of healing through numerous podcast appearances, virtual summits, and community events. Her extensive work with children and youth, first responders, military veterans, and refugees has further highlighted the pervasive impact of trauma worldwide. She advocates for systemic changes to protect survivors from retraumatization within the legal system. Heather is passionate about raising awareness of the pervasive nature of trauma in society and the need for more supportive systems for survivors.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Heather is deeply committed to humanitarian work, particularly in the Dominican Republic, where she has lived and worked as a teacher and continues to engage in long-term development projects through her local Rotary club and Rotary International. Her annual visits to the Dominican Republic bring immense personal fulfillment and underscore her commitment to making a difference in communities facing significant challenges. In 2022, Heather hosted three Ukrainian families fleeing war in their country, further informing her understanding of the global impact of trauma and the importance of compassionate, culturally-sensitive care.
Heather's unique blend of educational, clinical, and personal experience, coupled with her extensive international humanitarian work, makes her a compassionate and highly qualified professional in the field of trauma recovery, abuse survival, and global mental health advocacy.

“Help me, I don’t feel okay” is what people say in many other words when coming for therapy. The decision to seek therapy is a brave one! It takes courage to be able to speak about one’s problems to someone new. Having said that, Kavya believes that therapy is a powerful force to change the course of our lives. In therapy, Kavya prefers a collaborative approach when working with clients, where both parties have equal responsibility for bringing about positive change. She strives to meet her clients where they are, as she understands that it can sometimes be difficult to find the motivation to change in the beginning. Kavya offers a strength-based approach to her clients, reminding them of the tools that they already possess to bring about transformative experiences. She also recognizes that it can be difficult to talk to someone else about traumatic experiences, desires, and secrets that we may not even be ready to admit to ourselves. This is where Kavya believes that providing a safe and secure space to heal is vitally important.
Kavya strives to provide a holistic approach to working with clients, incorporating elements of the mind-body- and spirit. Kavya thinks of the mind-body as two sides of the same coin, and our spirit, as the inscriptions on that coin. If we work with one element, it leads to a domino effect and transforms the other elements as well.
Kavya is trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy, and she has an interest in incorporating psychodynamic elements into her sessions.
Kavya offers services in English, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu.
